Student Services: Grade Recovery
Douglas Anderson School of the Arts’ mission is to assist and provide every opportunity for our students to successfully meet the rigorous academic standards that will prepare them for success in high school and beyond. Since summer school is no longer an option for students, we will again offer an after-school Grade Recovery Program to give qualifying students the opportunity to recover unsuccessful work.
The Grade Recovery Program is designed for students who have put forth effort but have not been successful. To qualify for grade recovery, a student must have completed at least 75% of class work and homework for the course, attended at least two extra help sessions where available, and must not have engaged in plagiarism or cheating which resulted in the unsatisfactory grade. The grade recovery program allows students to raise a grade from an “F” or “D” up to a “C” if all course standards are met. A grade of “D” may be assigned if the teacher determines that some, but not all of the standards are met.
In most academic areas, eligible students will be required to complete prescriptive computerized assignments on Compass Learning remediation software, to be completed after school in the school’s computer labs. Some academic courses and all arts area courses have alternate plans for grade recovery. In order for the grade change to be reflected on the following report card, all requirements must be fulfilled in the following 9-week period. Participation in Grade Recovery must begin immediately after the report card is issued.
Students and parents should understand that participation in the program does NOT guarantee that the grade will be raised. The student must demonstrate mastery of the academic content covered during the period for which they received the failing grade as evidenced by a passing score on a comprehensive exam, project, and/or portfolio of work.
To participate in the Grade Recovery Program the student must complete a contract which stipulates the instructor’s specific requirements. For more information on specific grade recovery requirements, please contact the appropriate teacher. E-mail contact information is available on our website by clicking here.
